I hold my hands up I am your stereotypical busy mum. Holding down a job, running the household and looking after my son leaves me little time for myself. My husband works hard and is often not home until after 7.30pm, meaning that the easiest thing for us to do as a meal is to order a takeaway more often than not. Eating late, eating rubbish and yes that daily glass of wine has led to a situation where I am not happy with my weight. I recently went to a wedding and it suddenly dawned on me that I was the biggest female in the room – and I used to be the slimmest! With Christmas coming up, and lots of parties and events in the diary, it seemed like the perfect time to take control. I have tried various diets in the past but always failed as i don’t always have time to shop for the right ingredients. Eontu’s meal replacement diet, therefore appealed to me as I didn’t have to think about it! I just ordered the packs in advance and then on the days I was dieting – I just had to have four of them throughout the day. I chose to go on the 5:2 plan in order to ease myself in gently, as it were, but am aiming to make long-term changes to my diet as well to complement the plan.

Starting weight – 195.4lb

Day 1

Breakfast – ‘Apple and Cinnamon Weight Management Porridge’ – 134 kcal

I’m not a big fan of breakfast, and most of the time I skip it. A bad habit I know but one I am trying to change. When i do have breakfast Porridge is one of my go-to meals and one that my son often has, so I thought I would try Eontu’s flavoured porridge. Really straightforward to make, just added boiling water and then zapped in the microwave. Smelt delicious and had a lovely flavour and the little slivers of apple were a real surprise.

Lunch – ‘Wild Mushroom Weight Management Soup’ – 96 kcal

As easy to make as a cup-a-soup but tasted like it was home-made. A really creamy mushroom soup with little pieces of mushroom and parsley in. Really filled me up too.

Snack – ‘Vanilla Total Food Replacement Shake’ – 133 kcal

After collecting my son from school, and doing his homework with him I began to feel a little peckish and so opted to have a vanilla shake. I made mine with semi skimmed milk, but you can make it with water if you so wish. It was really yummy – not too vanillery if that makes sense, and very creamy. I’m not normally a fan of shakes, but this one tasted fab and I would definitely drink it again.

Tea – ‘Spaghetti Bolognese Total Food Replacement Meal’ – 140 Kcal

I really want this diet to work, so have opted to try and stick as closely as i can to my normal eating habits so have chosen the food replacement meals to replace my evening meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the Spaghetti Bolognese as it tasted delicious. Again, really easy to make, just add boiling water to the powder and then zap it in the microwave. It didn’t look the best, I’ll admit, but it tasted pretty good and there was a lovely blend of herbs in there that really worked. Looking forward to having this one again!

To drink: water (both cold and hot)

Total calories for first day: 503

The day was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. Yes, I was a little hungry at points, but not to the point where i wanted to ‘cheat’ and eat anything else. I found drinking lots of water helped as I think sometimes i think i am hungry when actually i just need to hydrate myself a bit more.

Day 2 

Woke up a little hungry this morning, so had one Weetabix with some semi-skimmed milk and a cup of tea with semi-skimmed milk as well.Resisted the temptation to weigh myself as it has only been one day! Already feeling better about myself though, especially since i have drastically reduced my alcohol and carb intake over the past fortnight in order to prepare myself for this new regime. Sleeping a lot better as well.

Lunch was a bit of a rush as I had a training course to get to, so grabbed myself a Sainsburys Be Good to Yourself BBQ Pulled Pork and sweetcorn rice from the reduced shelf! Not ideal but better than my normal go to McDonalds or Pizza! Worked out at 1640KJ which is still a lot! Won’t do that again!

Dinner – Slimming World Smoky Sausage Casserole.

Took the bull by the horns and made dinner for me and hubby tonight. Usually, he gets home at 7.30/8pm and starts cooking. Yes, we eat late and we eat a lot, which is what has led to this weight gain. Going forward the plan is for me to prepare something so that he can’t scupper me with his delicious calorie laden meals during the week 😉 Bought a slimming world magazine a while ago and this recipe sounded just the thing for a cold winters night! Sausages are slimming world syn free pork sausages – and actually they were rather nice!! Spicy sauce was right up hubby’s street too. Not sure how many Kcal this is, but it is listed as ‘Syn free’ which sounds good to me!

To drink: water, one cup of tea with skimmed milk and no sugar

Day 3

Breakfast – Traditional Porridge Total Food Replacement Breakfast – 147 kcal

Again really easy to make, just poured in some skimmed milk, mixed it up and blasted it in the microwave. I was a bit concerned when it came out as it looked really runny, but after following the instructions and leaving it to stand for a couple of minutes, the texture became more porridge like. Nice flavour, quite sweet – a good start to the day!

Lunch – Cream of Roast Onion Soup – 91 calories

Again really easy to make, just stirred powder into hot water and it was ready in seconds. Very creamy tasting and quite satisfying. The little croutons were a nice touch as well. Warmed me up on a cold and rainy day!

Not feeling that hungry today either. Think my body is getting used to the lower calories. Not missed my cup of tea either (oh who am I trying to kid – can’t wait to have one tomorrow morning!)

Snack: Fruit & Cereal Total Food Replacement Bar – 146Kcal

Tonight is the night that I take my son to football – outside. I usually have at least two cups of tea whilst i am there, so decided to take a bar with me instead. Loved the taste of this – really chewy without being too sweet. Had a yoghurt like coating on it as well which i wasn’t expecting. Really enjoyable.

Dinner – Red Bean Chilli Total Food Replacement Meal – 140Kcal

Loved, loved, loved this! Wanted something hot to warm me up after freezing at football and this chilli was perfect. Quite spicy but delicious.

Drink – water (cold and hot)

Total calories for day: 524

Day 4 

Breakfast – Quaker Oats Porridge in a cup

I like the speed of the porridge that Eontu offer so tried to replicate it with this Quaker Oats offering. Didn’t work quite so well as Eontu’s and was very sweet. Had a nice cup of tea after it though 🙂

Lunch – Scrambled Eggs, Avacado and Two Slimming World Bacon Medallions

Trying to keep off the carbs as much as possible, so went for one of the body coaches recipes. Tasted yummy and filled me up.

Dinner – Two pork loin steaks coated in homemade dry BBQ rub with bean salad.

Drank – water, two cups of tea with skimmed milk and no sugar

Day 5 

Breakfast – Nothing (bad Louise!)

Lunch – Cheese & Onion Pasty from Gregs (799Kcal) – lunch on the run

Dinner – Rump Steak with red onion and cherry tomato salad and one glass of red wine

Drank – water, two cups of tea with skimmed milk, one small glass of red wine

Day 6 

Breakfast – porridge made with water

Lunch – Three slices of freshly made cheese and tomato pizza

Tea – 2 Lamb Chops and two spoonfuls each of Lentil Dahl and Chicken Balti from my husband’s Indian takeaway!

Drank – one cup of tea with skimmed milk, water, one small glass of red wine

 

End of week weigh in: 192lbs

Really pleased with the weight loss and already my trousers feel a lot looser and have had to tighten my belt a notch! Feeling better in myself and am finding it straightforward to make better choices when it comes to the day’s when I am not eating the meal replacement packs. Looking forward to more changes next week.
